February 16 , 2005 - The Weathervane - Brattleboro, VT - Henning solo with Kevin O'Rourke and Mark Schwaber

Henning Says: On Wednesday, I went up to Brattleboro to play a show with fellow singer songwriters, Kevin O'Rourke and Mark Schwaber. As an added bonus, Brian came along for the ride.

It was a real nice time. Mark drove and we all squoze into his car and had ourselves a little road trip. It had been a long time since I was in Brattleboro. Brian and I used to enjoy wonderful evenings there playing with The Aloha Steamtrain at The Mole's Eye Cafe. But, since then, I haven't had much call to revisit the place.

The Weathervane is a delightful little cafe right in the center of town. They have good snick-snacks like bagettes with amazing cheddar cheese and the most incredible truffles I've ever had. You gotta try the espresso ones. Sheesh.

They also have a nice soundsystem there and we set our stuff up right when we arrived and then relaxed a little before starting the show. We drew straws to see what order we would play in. I drew the longest straw, which meant that I was the tallest. So, I went last.

Mark and Kevin both, of course, played great shows. The crowd was small but they seemed to enjoy them quite a bit. Brian and I and whichever person wasn't playing sat at the second table back and sang harmonies and whatnot along with the performance.

I had a really fun time playing my set. I debuted a new SFTD song called "Periscope" and I played two children's songs that I have been working on, "Snowbank" and "Why In The World Do There Have To Be Bees?". The whole room sang along on Snowbank which was awesome.

Saint Marty was kind enough to come and sit and listen for all three sets. He requested that I close with Candy Cane so I did.

After playing, we mingled a little. Brian and I caught up with some old friends from the Steamtrain days whose wedding we actually played at. They were as friendly and nice as ever. We also made two new friends from Seattle who took home a cd and T-shirt with them. Hopefully, I'll have a gigdiary with pictures soon.

The ride home was pleasant and dark and a little snowy here and there. We swapped fishing stories and haunted tales. Or something.
