Old talent in Ohlenbusch's 'the new you'

School for the Dead's new CD, ''the new you,'' kicks off with a tour de force tune called ''Photobooth Curtain.'' Like a connected strip of photos, the song starts with bright, driving power-pop that gives way to a quieter, admonishing Greek chorus, then back to power pop with interweaving vocals, and then - bam!o surprise ending.

The song is tricky and catchy and wonderful, and so is this fun local band and their new CD.

They are led by former Aloha Steamtrain alumnus Henning Ohlenbusch, whose laid-back Everyman demeanor belies a potent wit.

On Saturday night, School for the Dead is playing at 8 p.m. at the Pioneer Arts Center of Easthampton, 41 Union St., Easthampton.

They will be joined by 11 musical friends, including Phillip Price and Zeke Fiddler, who will each do one song apiece. School for the Dead also has a very happening Web site that includes a candid blog called ''The Living Rockumentary,'' about their day-to-day life as an indie rock band. $3 advance, $5 at the door. 527-3700.
